A lone guanaco stands beneath the granite spires of Torres del Paine, country shaped by ice, wind, and time. Guanacos are native to South America and have moved across these plains for thousands of years, built for cold steppe and high desert with thick coats and a wary eye for puma. They are the wild ancestors of the domesticated llama, and in places like this they remain one of the most important prey species in the ecosystem, keeping grasslands open and predators alive.

The peaks behind him were carved by glaciers during the last ice age, their sheer faces rising abruptly from rolling scrub and wind-cut valleys. Storms build fast here, clouds wrapping the towers in minutes before breaking open again to sun.

He does not dominate this place. He endures it. And in a landscape that has outlasted empires and seasons without count, endurance is enough.
